ZIKA VIRUS

What You Need to Know

AvMed constantly monitors reports of all infectious diseases and is currently surveying risk related to Zika. With several new cases of the disease reported this summer in South Florida, AvMed’s SVP and Chief Medical Officer Ann Wehr, M.D. said, “We encourage our Members throughout the state to be extremely vigilant in taking all possible precautions to limit their risk of exposure.”

Unfortunately,  there is neither a medication to treat Zika, nor a vaccine to prevent against it. Your best defense is an understanding of the disease and how to proactively guard against it.  You can find extensive information here.

While we collaborate with federal and local agencies, health departments and providers, AvMed would also like our Members to review the official resources from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): http://www.cdc.gov/zika/
